Patriotic Ideas

Hi Everyone!

Do you need some ideas for Americana Decor? Remember, many people decorate all summer with Americana. It takes into account Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day. I also include other Patriotic Ideas for your lifestyle such as a manicure and jewelry.

Here are a few we did for this summer.

I changed my spring chicken wire tote bag into Americana. I use this as a door hanger for my garage door. This is the door almost EVERYONE uses to come in and out of my home. This tote really brightens my day as I travel in and out.

Find more info about the chicken wire tote bag HERE.

Another cross that my Mom made was this PEACE cross. I think peace is on everyone’s mind as these holidays pass by. This cross looks similar to a Texas flag. Texas is our home state so that is not unusual. Mom used scrabble tiles to write out the word PEACE.

Below is a picture of my faux fireplace mantel all decked out with Americana. The USA frame with bead board background was made by my Mom. I did add antiquing gel to it for a vintage vibe.

Just a few touches of red, white and blue and it takes it into a patriotic state.
Here is a side view of my fireplace mantel that I have in my garage.

My Mom also made this decoupaged star frame pictured below. Find more info about the decoupaged star frame HERE.

The chicken wire frame that changes with the seasons is pictured below with a star in the middle. I will probably change this out to a sunflower later in the summer.

Here is a great picture of the chicken wire frame with a star in the middle. I change this out for each season.

These bottles were bought to stage a house we had flipped when I was a Realtor. I took them out of the box and put red, white and blue daisy like flowers in them. I adore it now!

Below are two crosses my Mom made and she used bandanas and stars to decorate them with.

Bandana Crosses

I had to celebrate with a manicure too! Red is a little too bright for me, so I went with a royal blue color and had her put stars on the ring fingers.

My old lady hands. I think I like a manicure and bracelets and rings to take attention away from all the wrinkles on my hands. lol

Below are some bracelets I made. I bought the blue beads at Walmart. The rhinestone bracelets came ready-made from Hobby Lobby.

Blue Bling!

Decoupaged Americana Frame with Star

Hi everyone!

Decorate your home for the summer with Americana. It takes in Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day. Look around your garage/attic/storage/craft stash and you will probably find most of the supplies for this Americana Project. It was made with a frame, star, decoupage paper and ribbon.

It can hang on the wall or be a shelf leaner.

My Mom actually made this project and I just added the bow. She blue washed the frame. She does this by mixing acrylic paint with water and rubs it on with a paper towel. Then she decoupaged the background and the star. She put in a piece of thin board for the background.

I love the distressed, vintage vibe of the decoupage paper. I love all things vintage!

Let me know if you make one similar to this!

Thank you for reading my blog!! It means a lot to me!

Trash to Treasure, Reviving a Candle

Revive a wax or battery operated candle by decoupaging and adding sparkly ribbon and adornment. In this revival, I used a jeweled cross and a salvaged base and a topper. Read below for all the supplies I used.

I went junking one weekend with my Mom and my Sister and found silver trays, candle holders, and other odds and ends. At Salvation Army, I found this candle bottom and topper. I am not really sure what they originally were used for or even sure if they were meant to go together. But my vision was for an Old World Style Candle.

The bottom and topper was a pale, brassy yellow. I added “Antique Gold Rub N Buff and it became a much richer gold color.

I had decided to use the cross and three rows of rhinestone ribbon to decorate and embellish with. So I added some rub n buff to those too. But I found some iron-on rhinestone ribbon in my stash that looked better and sparkled more. These embellishments were bought at Hobby Lobby.

Below is a picture of the rice paper I decided to use to cover the candle. It is called NEUTRAL Harlequin. I ordered this from Etsy from Decoupage Queen. Her Etsy store is called THDecorAtl.

Rice paper is pretty easy to decoupage onto a candle. I used Mod Podge and just wrapped it around. Wrinkles really were not a problem.

Even though it is gold in color, it looks great on my bronze table with matching bronze lamps. You can see in the pictures below how the bling ribbon at the bottom is very sparkly. It really matches the gold in the frame of our family picture too.

I made the cross into a push pin because this candle was covered in wax even though it is a battery operated candle. I used hot glue and E6000 to attach a flat head tack to the back of the cross. I used hot glue to attach the ribbon at the bottom.

I added bling to my treasure chest and orb too. I wanted more sparkle on this table. I plan to add just a touch to the frame of our family portrait too. But the pièce de ré·sis·tance is the candle.

Below are some pictures before I decided where to put it in my home. This is my favorite project so far this summer.

Thank you for reading my blog about my favorite home decor project. Please leave a comment, I would love to see who reads my blogs.
