Enchanting Garden Angel, “Just an eye blink…”

Good Morning Everyone!

I had made three different angel like creatures for my Garden Fairy. I only needed one so this was an extra and she looked best with doily wings. So she became a GARDEN ANGEL! Keep reading if you are interested in knowing how she came to land in my garage.

I wasn’t brave enough to draw the body of my garden fairy right onto my canvas. So I practiced in my mixed media pad first. That is the great thing about practicing in a sketch/paint pad first. If you like what you create, you can always cut it out and decoupage it onto a canvas and use it as a mixed media project.

Here I was laying out all the flowers and butterflies that I had in my stash that blended well with the Angel and her wings. I do not put faces on my angels or fairies.

I had painted three angel/fairy girls trying to match their dresses with the wings I had on hand. This particular angel girl looked best with this heart shaped doily that I coffee stained. I cut the doily in half so her wings would look bigger.

Here I had everything glued down. But It still needed some pizazz. You can tell by this picture that I had used some metallic sheen paint.

The quote I decided to use is a partial quote I have heard from many people. I had just used it that week when my husband was commenting about someone on TV and how they had robbed a bank. Yes, they got away with it and that money would help them in THIS LIFE, but what about their eternal life?

Chaim Potok was known for a similar quote.

There is a key in the bottom right hand corner that is kind of hidden in the flower. I love mixed media, because it can have so many hidden messages and meanings.
Here is the quote before I added glitter.
Here it is AFTER glitter.

Below are some closeup pictures so you can see the glitter better. The overall affect of the glitter is not overwhelming. But it does add so much depth and fairy like qualities.

Flowers and butterflies and glitter and shimmer. These are a few of my favorite things.
I outlined her with gold glitter. The rest of the canvas has twilight glitter.
Don’t put your projects away when you are finished. Display them in with seasonal decor or everyday decor.

Thank you for reading my blog!! It means THE WORLD to me!

Garden Fairy, “Happiness” quote by Thoreau

Hi Everyone!

I am trying to stay warm in these winter blasts we are having. They are reaching all the way down here to South Louisiana. I made a mixed media project that was inspired by Artist, Amanda Hilburn. I purchased a tutorial from her website. Please go and visit her site and her Facebook Page. You will learn a lot! Her Facebook Page is “The Little Bluebird Gallery”.

My fairy does not look like hers. I love hers! But I learned a lot. Everyone’s mixed media looks different because we all have different supplies and ephemera. The first thing I did was find some butterfly wings. I loved this pair because of all the pastel spring time colors.

I bought these three dimensional flowers at Michael’s. I had to use them on this project because they looked so good with the butterfly wings. This picture was before I outlined everything with my graphite pencil.

I knew I wanted a quote of some kind on my project. This one seems to fit perfectly.

Please don’t make projects and put them in a closet. Display them throughout your home! Change them out with the seasons.
She looks good on my springtime fireplace mantel.
I used several mixed media techniques.
I painted the body of the fairy and some of the flowers and greenery.
I love using scrapbook paper on my mixed media projects!!
When my garage thaws out, I will be adding some glitter or twinkle paint.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my Garden Fairy. I hope I have inspired you to start collecting scrapbook paper, 3-d flowers, butterfly wings and inspirational quotes. You can make so many different mixed media projects. Make your own gift cards, gift bags and yes…..home decor.

Thank you for reading my blog!! It means a lot to me!

Mixed Media Dress

Hi Everyone!

I recently took an online class with Tricia Robinson and I created this little dress. If you know Tricia you know she is full of whimsy and wonky. I just love her style. Butterflies have been my passion for this year so I choose to highlight them on and around my dress.

I so wanted to be a fashion designer when I was younger. But I knew the competition was tough and it was a hard industry to make it in. I loved to sew when I was young because that was before the Walmart’s and malls came into being. There just wasn’t much fashion to choose from in the few stores we had available to us back then. Ordering from the Sears catalog was hit and miss. So I sewed kinda from creativity and kinda from necessity. This little DRESS project was right up my alley. I didn’t even have to get out my sewing machine. lol.

The flowers at the bottom were ruffled cupcake liners. It goes back to your childhood to cut, glue, paint and create. TRY IT! BE CREATIVE!

I won’t explain the process because that is Tricia’s trademark but I just wanted you to know about her mixed media art and online presence and she also creates with a spiritual message.

If you get a chance, go check out Tricia Robinson’s Facebook page. She is awesome.

Mixed Media File Folder

Hi Everyone!

Organizing for 2021. If you can organize and beautify at the same time…..Bam, Score!

I was organizing my office and putting titles on some manila file folders. But they looked so plain and my handwriting is not exactly pretty. I leave this sitting on my desk daily. I handle them daily. I don’t put them away, so I thought why not beautify them?

I needed some practice with mixed media, so I decided to use some of my scrapbook paper to collage and decoupage them. I did this one front and back so from all angles it would look good.

Instead of my sketchy handwriting, I decopauged my new vintage truck logo and the larger letters of my old logo. See below. I went through all my scrapbook paper and choose my favorites and TORE the pieces instead of CUTTING. I like that distressed look. I used Mod Podge to adhere to the file folders. My pallet knife came in handy as I spread it like butter on toast. I also used the pallet knife to smooth the top surface of bubbles and creases. The paper I used was very thick. So bubble and creases were not really a problem.

After I had covered all the surfaces I went in with brown paint to distress and age the portions that were white. I distressed the edges that were cut too. The next folders I did I overlapped the pieces so I didn’t have any cut edges. You can do it either way.

Compare the two. I would much rather have the beautified folder on my desk.

Since I had rough feeling, cut edges on the left folding side I put a long strip of scrapbook paper to make a binding like a book. I really like how that looks. I didn’t do it for the other two folders I made since I didn’t have cut edges. I overlapped edges.

I really enjoyed making these folders. I have done two more after this one. I will do more as I find time. It is really nice to sit in my garage workspace, listen to music and/or my favorite Crafting Tutorials and transform these file folders.

Thank you for reading my blog, looking at my pictures and just being here!!

It means a lot to me!

Love One Another, Valentine Painting

This mixed media painting is really a matched set to the one I posted a few days ago called: “You are Loved”. This one is called: “Love One Another”. I used all the same colors. In fact, I painted them both at the same time. While one was drying, I painted the other one. Read on for my inspiration.

Mixed Media is using more than just paint on your project. Here I used Paint along with Stencils and 3 Dimensional Paper Flowers. I used stencils for the hugs and kisses or x’s and o’s. It is a cute stencil because the x’s are actually hearts. I used paper flowers that I painted to match the colors I used in the painting.

I would like to plan local paint parties for small groups (keeping COVID 19 in mind.) I can also do online paint parties with this design. But if you cannot get out to a party or cannot get out to buy the supplies, I will sell the kit on my website for the next couple of weeks. The link is right down below.

I cannot give instructions to the general public for this painting because it is not my design. I have a mentor that I purchased it from and she has allowed me to do local paint parties with it or online paint parties.

Below is a link to the time lapsed video I made while I was painting it.

Please check back because if I have enough interest, I will do an online paint party. This is where you can stay home, stay in your pajamas and have fun painting with your family.

Here are some other ways to paint the same picture.

You have so so many options when you paint.

Thanks for checking out my blog! I’ll have more coming soon.
