Aqua Striped Bunny, Farmhouse Home Decor

Hip Hop Hooray! Easter’s On Its Way!

This wooden home decor will make someBUNNY feel special. He is made from heavy duty scrap wood we had on hand. The wood had a lot of character and looked rustic so staining it seemed the perfect finishing touch. Keep reading for the details and pictures.

Wooden Bunny with Brown and Aqua Stripes. Stands on a base and has "Hoppy Easter" on it.

Mom “stained” the whole bunny with watered down brown acrylic craft paint. Then I used painter’s tape to make the striped lines. I wanted it to match my home which has shades of aqua and brown. I was going to also add cream but decided I liked just the blue and brown.

Wooden Bunny stained brown.
Here he is without his stripes. He stands up easily on his own.

I used my Chalk Couture teal paste to “stain” the stripes. I also used a Chalk Couture transfer to put on the words “Hoppy Easter”. I am a Chalk Couture Independent Designer. The paste is not permanent until you seal it. So I will seal it with spray on clear acrylic spray when I am totally finished.

I used one large strip of painter’s tape and one small strip of painter’s tape to make my large stripe.
Here are the stripes ready to begin using the paste to make the “teal stain”.
Here is where I decided he needed a base to stand on. He just looked too lonely as a porch leaner.

We were going to just use it as a porch leaner. But I asked Mom if she could put a base on it so it could stand anywhere in your home or outside your home. Ask and you shall have it with my Mom. She screwed the base onto the bunny and also glued it for good measure with E6000. This is one substantial bunny rabbit!

Here are the screw holes Mom used to attach the base.
Wooden Aqua Striped Bunny with wooden stand. Aqua and Burlap bow and has a saying of "Hoppy Easter".
He looks so good in my house, maybe I won’t even try to sell him.

I made a bow with tails using aqua polka dot burlap ribbons, aqua lace, and even some dollar tree ribbon. I love bows. They always add the finishing touch!

A better look at the bow and HOPPY EASTER! 🙂

He looks good everywhere I put him! Maybe I will have him HOP around until Easter.

Please view my time lapsed video on Facebook of me making this bunny. The link is below.

If Aqua is NOT your color, you could use pink, yellow, etc to make the stripes. You could even make the stripes look like ship lap. There are so many options with Easter Colors. Easter will be here before we know it.

Thank you so much for reading about how we made this Aqua Hoppy Bunny. Take care, God Bless!

Aqua Heart for Valentine’s

I like unconventional colors for traditional holidays. I wanted to paint an aqua heart to go on my buffet as an ode to Valentine’s Day. I do love red and/or pink….but aqua is boss.

So my first step with this painting was to do a background that would coordinate with my large painting already on my buffet. I bought my large painting from Pier One years ago. I adore nature so the leaves are right up my alley. It also has a lot of metallic paint sheen. So it took me several tries before my background for my heart matched or coordinated well enough to stand up in front of this large painting.

My first try was too orange, my next try was too yellow, then I finally got it right with just enough blues, beiges and browns.

First Try….too orange.
Next try to beige and yellow….
Getting better….now to add browns…
Finally, it matched enough to begin my aqua heart….
I added metallic gold all around the outside of the heart and also around the inside of the heart. I also shaded and highlighted.
It looks good on my buffet, if I do say so myself. lol….

Now where could I have found a painting like this? You sometimes have to make your own to fit YOUR decor and the SPACE you want to put it in. I hope this has inspired you to buy some paints and paint something for your home. Use cardboard if you don’t have a canvas. Just give creating a try. It does a body good. And a MIND.
