Add Glamour to Ordinary Items
Do you need some glamour in your life but do not want to change your whole decor and lifestyle? Here are a few items to add some Old Hollywood Glamour to. Add Glamour to Ordinary Items such as Lamps, Purses, Notebooks, and even Recycled Cans. Read below for items, supplies and techniques.
Add Glamour to Ordinary Items, LAMPS

Add feather boas to ordinary lamp shades. I used a black feather boa for one lamp and a white feather boa for another lamp. You can get many different colors of feather boas reasonable priced at Hobby Lobby. I used hot glue to adhere the spines of the boas to the shade. My inspiration for the next two projects was Kathy at Royale Funky Junque on Facebook. She made a pink feather boa lamp shade and also made the earring holder with a cute bird on top.

Keep in mind that I link these companies and their products because of their quality and not because of the commission I receive from your purchases. The decision is yours, and whether or not you decide to buy something is completely up to you.
- Lamp and shade
- Feather boa (it may take two depending on the size of your shade)
- Hot glue
- Totally Dazzled Ribbon to put on bottom of lamp base (Click here for my affiliate link for TOTALLY DAZZLED)
LAMP INTO EARRING HOLDER
Add Glamour to Ordinary Items such as a Dollar Tree basket and an old lamp base. You can easily use candlesticks to make this DIY earring holder but I used an old lamp base. We could not find a lamp kit to repair it, and it was the perfect size for this project. Mom cut a round piece of board to attach to the top. She made it the same size as the bottom of the basket. We screwed the board onto the lamp base and also used hot glue and e6000 glue.

Paint the base and angel with white chalk paint. Distress them after the paint is dry. Then glue the basket on the board and the angel on top of that, again using hot glue and e6000. (don’t mix the glues, just put in alternating places)
- Dollar Tree Wire Basket in white
- Lamp base or candlestick
- Board for basket to attach to (none needed if you are using a large candlestick)
- Hot glue and e6000 glue
- White chalk paint
- Topper, may be an angel, bird, rabbit, crown, etc.
Add Glamour to Ordinary Items, PURSES
Add a touch of Old Hollywood Glamour to a purse that has lost its appeal. I had these leopard clutches left over from a boutique I had and they never sold. So I decided to make them one of a kind treasures that I can sell in our vintage craft booth.

If you like the old movie stars, you will LOVE these. I was inspired by Debi at Studio MD AZ. Please go and follow her Facebook or YouTube channel. She is a great teacher and makes crafting so much fun!

- Purse
- Print out of movie star and a favorite quote or snarky quote (I used regular copy paper and regular ink)
- Distress Inks in Vintage Photo and/or Black if you want a vintage look (optional)
- Mod Podge (I used outdoor Mod Podge for a sturdier finish) (click here for an affiliate link to Outdoor Mod Podge in the green bottle)
- TOTALLY DAZZLED bling wrap in silver or Stanley Roberts (Hobby Lobby) bling ribbon in gold
- Tim Holtz Stickles (used to outline the quotes) (click here for an affiliate link, but pick your favorite color and order that or order the whole set)
- Hot glue and tacky glue
- FOR CANVAS PURSE, Canvas purse, paint, striped ribbon, tassel and all the above

First, arrange your photos and quotes to fit on the purse. Distress the edges with Distressed Ink and a sponge dauber. Glue down with the Mod Podge. Make the quotes look like they were cut from a magazine. Allow to dry. Then Mod Podge on top of the photos all the way to the edge of the purse. Allow to dry.
Embellish the Purses
Next. add some embellishments. I used one to two rows of bling to go around the photos. Silver or gold depending on the color of the purse and/or photo. To adhere use hot glue sparingly and use mostly tacky glue to keep the rhinestone ribbon down. Add STICKLES all around the edge of the quotes. This glitter glue goes on easily and takes several hours to dry. It should go on last.

I also made a crossover purse bought from Hobby Lobby. For this purse it is optional if you paint it or not. I put checks on the back and a striped ribbon at the top of the zipper pocket. I also added a tassel to the zipper pull. CLICK HERE for more details of how I painted one entirely with checks a few months ago.

RECYCLE A CAN
Add Glamour to Ordinary Items. You can’t get more ordinary than a can you were going to through away. Clean label off can and put in dishwasher. Decoupage your favorite scrapbook paper around can. Mod Podge on top for protection. Let dry. Apply a photo of your favorite movie star or pin up girl. Add a snarky quote and follow the directions from purses above. Your photos and quotes usually have to be downsized to fit the can. These are great for pens and pencils and even paint and makeup brushes. Just have fun! To take it up a notch, you may want to paint the inside of the can with Liquid Gold from Plaid. I did not do this to keep my cost low, but Debi recommends it.

- Soup or vegetable can of any size (even tuna to keep smaller treasures in)
- Print out of movie star and a favorite quote or snarky quote (I used regular copy paper and regular ink)
- Scrapbook paper
- Mod Podge (I used outdoor Mod Podge for a sturdier finish) (click here for an affiliate link to Outdoor Mod Podge in the green bottle)
- TOTALLY DAZZLED bling wrap in silver or Stanley Roberts (Hobby Lobby) bling ribbon in gold
- Tim Holtz Stickles (used to outline the quotes) (click here for an affiliate link, but pick your favorite color and order that or order the whole set)
WRITING JOURNALS
Use a black and white composition book and decoupage your favorite scrapbook paper to the front and back sides. Cut to fit exactly so there is no overlap to the inside of the book. Allow to dry. Attach your favorite movie star and quote or favorite pin up girl and snarky quote. Follow the same instructions as the above projects. Coat entire book with Mod Podge after your photos and quotes are on. Add embellishments to the front cover. I left the back side alone so it would lay flat.

- Purse
