Jazz up a plain crown and a plain frame with all kinds of embellishments. This REFRESHED AND NOW MAJESTIC CROWN IN A FRAME is now worthy of being a Mardi Gras Decoration.
I purchased the crown picture on one of my thrifting vacations to Texarkana. I had tried several times to make this picture look better with paint. However, I never succeeded with the colors I chose. The crown needed to really pop out and look nice. As it turns out, Purple and Gold were the perfect colors and now it is ready for Mardi Gras.

The first step, was to take the crown off the frame since it was screwed on. Next, paint the frame by spray painting purple with Krylon Paint and Primer in Gloss Purple. Paint the inside portion of the frame with acrylic brush on paint. I mixed purple, green and gold to get a blurred effect. The whole picture was brown, black and gold before.
The frame was very flat with no embellishments at all. It seemed too plain for a beautiful crown. That’s when I decided to add on-lays from a mold I had. I made them out of hot glue and I will post a link of my Facebook video where I did this. They were painted purple too and then dry brushed with Plaid Gold Leaf paint. See my affiliate link here for Gold Leaf Paint.
See my LIVE Facebook video of how I make hot glue castings HERE.
In addition, I added gold beads from the Dollar Tree that I painted with that same favorite Gold Leaf Paint. Paint the whole package and you will have them ready for any project that you want gold trim on.
The whole crown front and back was painted with that same Plaid Gold Leaf Paint. Embellishments were also added to the crown. I used Dollar Tree Pearl like beads, also painted gold, for each turret of the crown. Swarovski crystals were added for the turrets and the bottom portion of the crown.
Lastly, Robert Stanley trim was added along the edges of the crown. You can buy this trim from Hobby Lobby. I ordered mine online. It comes in a ribbon with several rows. You can cut one row at a time to fit your projects.
In Conclusion: Great Mardi Gras Decor
