This is a great door hanger perfect for a sewer or embroiderer. Mom used embroidery hoops as her first layer and then added yo yo’s for embellishments.
I remember her looking for the red and ivory ticking fabric at Hobby Lobby. I wasn’t quite sure what she was going to do with it, but it sure did turn out to be perfect “Old Fashioned Homespun Christmas” decor. She saw something similar on Pinterest that gave her the idea.
Fill the embroidery hoops with the fabrics of your choice. My Mom then attached the two hoops together with a screw to really secure them.
My Mom loves to make yo-yos. I think originally they were made from leftover fabric to make fancy quilts. But you can use them for so much more. She made a Christmas Tree with them that I posted about the other day. CLICK HERE to see that post. I will be making a post soon about HOW TO MAKE YO-YOs.
She put two staggered sized yo-yos and then put a covered button on the top. I like the little gathered middle section so you don’t HAVE to cover it up if you don’t want to.
She added other embellishments that were small Christmas ornaments and then a bow and jingle bells. She added eye hooks to attach the door hanger ribbon made with the ticking fabric.
This door hanger is very cute and reminds me of a Country Old Fashioned Christmas! The best kind of Christmas!
