Upscaled Dollar Tree Foam Pumpkins
Two pumpkins two different ways. One can be for FALL and the other for HALLOWEEN. I painted one a metallic copper color and wrapped with an iridescent brown fabric and finished with a finial. The other one I left orange, wrapped with black lace and finished with a little witch hat. The elevation of the candlesticks REALLY is what takes them OVER THE TOP!
The first one we (my Mom and I) made was the brown one. I painted it metallic copper. Then Mom made a yo yo from iridescent brown fabric and gathered it all up at the top. She also made a yo yo from burlap as the topper to cover all the gathers. It also made a good surface for the finial to be placed on top.
What is a yo yo you ask? They are the rosettes that turn into yo yo quilts.
“Yo-yo quilts are made from round pieces of fabric with long stitches along their turned-under outer edges. Stitches are pulled to gather the circles into rosettes.” —-TheSpruceCrafts.com
For the finial and candlestick, I painted an old world bronze color and then used Antique gold Rub n Buff.
I think this one turned out so elegant and sophisticated. It looks Old World Luxurious. The fabric and finial came from Hobby Lobby. The candlestick was thrifted from GoodWill. More pictures will be at the bottom.
For the next pumpkin we wanted a Halloween theme. We didn’t have any black lace so my Mom dyed the lace using black acrylic paint. She didn’t make a yo yo for this one, she just used a rubber band to secure it a the top. We knew the witches hat was going to hide the rubber band.
The witches hat was bought at Michaels and the candlestick was bought from a garage sale.
I painted the candlestick with black spray paint and added glitter paint to it. I also added some glitter paint to some of the black lace.
Below are some more pictures. I hope you try these projects. The possibilities are endless! Comment below if you try it and let me know what you come up with. Crafting is FUN!
Later, I went back and added a feather boa and a soft little owl to the brown pumpkin. Below are some pictures of this new version.
