Paint a Canvas Purse?
Why not try getting creative with a plain canvas purse? I decided to do a checker board design on this crossover shoulder purse I bought at Hobby Lobby. I only painted the front side. I added gold dots and a tassel to the zipper closure. MacKenzie-Childs Inspired.
I got this idea from Debi Rigg at Studio MD AZ. Please go follow her Facebook page. She did a dollar tree make up bag and put names on them. I happen to have a million makeup bags so I did a crossover bag instead.
I don’t want to give away all Debi’s secrets but…. FIRST you mark your squares off. I used a pencil and ruler. Then I painted with regular black craft acrylic paint. You could of course use fabric paint if you want. When I was done, I felt like it looked too much like a raceway checkered flag. That’s where Debi’s magic comes in. I put a white highlight in each black square along with gold highlights. I also had some green adhesive gemstones from the Dollar Tree that I painted gold and put one at each corner of the squares. I attached these with tacky glue.
It needed a little something extra. I had these tassel earrings that I thought would look good as a zipper pull. I attached one with gold ribbon. Voila, a painted purse to be proud of.
You can also do tennis shoes or tote bags. Go be creative!
